FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CHIROPRACTIC CARE

Q: What should I expect during my first visit to a chiropractor?

Ans: At our clinic, we have treated many patients who have never been to a chiropractor before. During your first visit, you will be greeted by our staff and will be asked to fill out a case history form before meeting our chiropractor. Further, our chiropractors will take a detailed history of your current condition, as well as relevant health information. A focused exam will follow, where the chiropractor will do specific orthopedic tests, movements, and tissue palpation to identify the cause of the pain. Next, a diagnosis will be done, and treatment options will be explained to you. A few of the possible options are soft tissue treatment, adjustments, exercise prescription, stretches and/or possibly a modality such as ultrasound or muscle stimulation.

Q: Is chiropractic treatment safe?

Ans: Many researchers have studied the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic treatment in-depth. Chiropractic treatment is found to be safe and most effective in alleviating back pain, neck pain, headaches, and many other musculoskeletal conditions.

Q: If I am not clear whether I have back pain, muscle problem, or a joint problem, whom should I visit the chiropractor or massage therapist?

Ans: Chiropractors are the experts and trained in the diagnosis of the musculoskeletal system so it is always recommended to initially visit a chiropractor to understand the cause of the pain and then a referral to a massage therapist can be made if required.

Q: Once I start seeing a chiropractor, do I need to go all the time?

Ans: Not exactly. Chiropractors help the patient with their current pain and to educate them on how to prevent it from reoccurring. A few conditions like repetitive motion injuries, or fibromyalgia, for instance, need more constant care, others may take as little as two to three visits. On the basis of your condition, we will recommend the most appropriate treatment schedule.

Q: Do you direct bill insurance?

Ans: No, we do not presently direct bill insurance for a number of reasons. This keeps our costs down for daily patient visits as well as builds ownership and commitment of a patient to their own personal health. Most insurance providers make it quite simple to be reimbursed and by keeping our costs down, which makes it affordable to those that do not carry insurance to see a chiropractor. We do direct bill for seniors, RCMP & Veterans, and motor vehicle injuries.

Q: What is the wait time for a new patient and regular appointment times?

Ans: New patients can generally be seen within the week and at times the same day, depending on urgency. Regular visits can be booked the same day depending on the week, but it is recommended you to call early in the day.

Q: Are your chiropractors able to provide more than just manual manipulations, I am apprehensive of getting my neck "cracked"?

Ans: Yes, we provide mobilizations (non-thrust joint movements), activator and stretching techniques which will allow you to be comfortable and still provide relief from your pain. Neck manipulation is administered with care and will only be done by patient consent and a discussion of health concerns that may not make you a candidate for this procedure.
